THE GOD WHO PROVIDES

"But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:19

Glory to God! The context of God will provide, as we have seen from our opening scripture, which was written to the church in Philippi, speaks of God's response to the generosity of the Philippians. The Philippians had supported Paul financially again and again. When he was in Thessalonica, they sent help more than once. And now, when he was in prison, they sent a gift through Epaphroditus. Paul thanked them and told them that their gift was a sweet-smelling sacrifice, well pleasing to God. Then he said, 'But my God shall supply all your need.' He was telling them that because they had sown into his need, God would take care of theirs. Notice the word 'my'. Paul did not say 'God'; he said 'my God'. He was speaking from personal experience. He had been in abundance and in lack, and he had found that God was faithful in both. Apostle Paul wrote that he had learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need, and that he could do all things through Christ who strengthened him. When you know God personally, you can speak of His provision with confidence. The one who has only heard about God's provision from others will struggle to trust Him, but the one who has tested it will say, 'My God.'

Look at the widow of Zarephath. There was a famine in the land, and she was preparing the last meal for herself and her son before they died. Then the prophet Elijah came and asked her to make him a small cake first. It was a test of faith. It didn't make sense, but she obeyed. The Bible says that the barrel of meal did not run out and the cruse of oil did not fail for many days. God supplied her need, but she had to take a step of obedience first. She had to give from what little she had before she saw the increase. God's provision is for all your needs. Not all your wants. And guess what, it is 'according to his riches in glory', not according to your bank account, your salary, or the economy. God does not give from the limited funds of the world. He gives from the unlimited riches of His Kingdom through the finished work of the Christ Jesus. Generosity flows from the understanding that God sees and rewards giving, and He gives liberally to all men from His own riches. Oh! Glory! So, do not be afraid of what you lack. Trust the Provider, obey His Word, and sow into His kingdom. Faith and obedience always go together. Your need is not bigger than His riches. Never measure what you need against what you have; measure it against what He has. He will supply, and He will not be late. Hallelujah!!!

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

  1. What need am I currently facing, and am I trusting God for it or relying only on my own efforts?
  2. Is there a step of obedience or sowing that God is asking me to take as an expression of trust in His provision?

PRAYERS

Father, thank You for Your word. You are my Provider. I trust You to supply all my needs according to Your riches in glory in Jesus's name. Amen.

  3. God is not looking at my bank account, my salary or eve the economic situation of the country to supply my needs. It takes HIM nothing to do that, my needs are not bigger than His riches. He’s the maker of them all. I trust in you Father.
