DETOX

"Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me."

Psalms 51:10

Glory to God! Welcome to the eighth month of the year. Let us take out time to give God praise today. He is good, and His mercy is forever. Today, as we begin the new month, we will be discussing a very important subject matter: DETOX! What does it mean to detox? It means cleansing. The act of subjecting oneself to purification. The process of removing unhealthy things and habits from our body, soul and spirit. Our actions are the product of our content. The content of our heart, through the things we feed on, is the determinant of our belief system and what eventually produces the outcome of our behaviours. From the beginning of the year, we have acted in certain ways and directions. The question before us today is, have our actions produced desired results, or have they subjected us to moving round circles? If you cannot measure your growth in strategic areas of your life, you will need to detox from whatever you have been feeding on this month. The psalmist knew that the outcome of his action was because of an unhealthy state of his heart; there was lust in his heart. He loves the Lord, but yet lust was living rent-free in his heart, and because it was left unchecked, it led to his sins (adultery and murder). If you don't check yourself for detox, you can be aiding your failures without knowing. It is time to cry out for cleansing. It is time to trust God for grace to quit those limiting, negative habits that you have been accommodating. This is the month you take on that fast and burn those fats; this is the month you stop the sleepless night of scrolling the internet. This is the month you reset your heart, your spirit, and your body for the glory of God. There is more that can be accomplished this year; it is not yet over. Get up and sweep your house of every dirt that has made everything around you heavy. Like the psalmist, ask the Lord to renew a right spirit within you. It is your month. Detox! Shout 'Hallelujah'!!!

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

  1. What habits, influences, or attitudes have I allowed into my life that are slowing down my spiritual, emotional, or personal growth?
  2. What practical changes can I make this month to create more room for God's Word, His presence, and purposeful living?
PRAYERS

Father, thank You for the gift of a new month. Search my heart, and cleanse me from every unhealthy habit and wrong attitude. Create in me a clean heart, renew a right spirit within me, and empower me by Your grace to live a life that glorifies You. Let this month be a season of cleanliness in Jesus' name.
