LED BY THE SPIRIT

"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." Romans 8:14

Glory to God! In the first few days of October, we discussed hearing and following the voice of God. Today's scripture takes us a step further: It says, 'as many as'. Which tells us that it is not for a special group of believers; it is for everyone who belongs to the family of God. If you are a child of God, you have the Holy Spirit living in you, and His job is to lead you. The Spirit does not lead us by force; He leads us as a loving Father leads a child. Sometimes He leads through the Word, sometimes through an inner conviction, sometimes through the counsel of mature believers, and sometimes through circumstances that He arranges. But whichever way He chooses, He will never lead you against the written Word. Many believers want to be led only when it is convenient, but the Bible says it is those who are led by the Spirit who are the sons of God. It is a sign of sonship. A child who never listens to the father is not showing the nature of sonship. To be led by the Spirit is to live daily yielding to His direction. Just like a sailor does not make the wind for the boat to sail but positions the boat in the direction of the wind, that is how we position our hearts to receive the Spirit's leading.

Look at Philip in Acts 8. He was in the middle of a revival in Samaria, but an angel told him to go to the desert road. Philip did not argue that revival was happening where he was. He obeyed and went, and there he met an Ethiopian official reading the book of Isaiah. The Spirit then told him, 'Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.' Because Philip followed the leading, a man heard the gospel and was baptised, and the gospel went to Africa. Also consider Apostle Paul on his second journey. The Spirit forbade him from preaching in Asia and did not allow him to go into Bithynia. A vision then led him to Macedonia. Sometimes the Spirit's leading includes a 'no' as well as a 'yes'. A 'no' is not a rejection; it is protection and redirection. To be led by the Spirit, we must stay close to Him. We should spend time in prayer, feed on the Word, and obey promptly when He speaks. Do not wait until you understand everything. Take the step, and the next one will become clear. Many people are waiting for a loud voice from heaven when the Spirit is already nudging them from within. Do not despise the gentle prompting; it may be your answer. Let the Spirit lead you today in every decision, and you will find yourself exactly where God wants you to be. Hallelujah!!!

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

  1. Am I sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit in my daily decisions, or do I mostly rely on my own plans?
  2. What 'yes' or 'no' from the Spirit have I been delaying obedience to?

PRAYERS

Father, thank You for Your word. Lead me by Your Spirit in everything I do, and make me quick to obey Your direction in Jesus's name. Amen.
