DAILY ENCOUNTER
RIVERS OF LIVING WATER
"Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life." John 4:13-14
Glory to God! There was a well in Samaria, where Jesus met a woman who had been looking for satisfaction in all the wrong places. It was about noon, the hottest part of the day, and she came alone to draw water, perhaps to avoid the crowd. Jesus, who knew her and the salvation of God, asked her for a drink, and that simple request opened a conversation that changed her life. He crossed barriers that day: He was a Jew speaking to a Samaritan and a man speaking to a woman in public. Then He said something that must have sounded strange to her: 'Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again.' He was speaking about Jacob's well, but He was also speaking about every source we turn to in order to fill the empty places in our hearts. People drink from relationships, money, achievements, applause, pleasure, and position, and they find that after a while, they are thirsty again. The woman at the well had gone through five husbands, and yet something inside her was still not satisfied. She was thirsty, and no human well could quench that thirst. Maybe that is a picture of someone you know, or even yourself. There is nothing wrong with enjoying good things in life, but no created thing can fill the space that was designed for God.
Jesus offered her something different: 'But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.' Jesus did not say He would give her a bucket; He said He would put a well inside her. Later, in John 7, Jesus cried, 'He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water,' and the Bible explains that He was speaking of the Holy Spirit. The satisfaction Jesus gives is not external; it is internal, and it overflows. See what happened to the woman: she left her waterpot, went into the city, and said, 'Come, see a man.' Many of the Samaritans believed because of her testimony. God does not need a perfect past to start a powerful testimony. He only needs a thirsty heart that has met Him. A woman who came to the well in shame returned as an evangelist. When you truly drink from Jesus, you cannot hold it in. Stop running from well to well and come to the Source. The well is not far away; Jesus is as near as your next sincere prayer in this very moment. Let the Holy Spirit fill you afresh today, and let the rivers flow from you to others around you. You will never thirst again, and others will drink from the life that is flowing out of you. Hallelujah!!!
