DAILY ENCOUNTER
A FRESH START FOR A NEW SEASON
"It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness." Lamentations 3:22-23
Glory to God! Welcome to a brand new week. God has been faithful to us, and He has graciously brought us to another Monday with new mercies and new opportunities. Many people step into a new week still carrying the weight of the last one: the mistakes they made, the prayers that seem unanswered, the plans that did not work out, and the words that were said to them. Some are stepping in with fears about the future, while others are simply tired because the last season was long and hard. If that is you today, our opening scripture has good news for you. Let us consider the man who wrote it. Jeremiah wrote Lamentations when Jerusalem had been destroyed, the temple was in ruins, and the people were being carried into exile. If anyone had a reason to say there was no hope left, it was him. Yet in the middle of the ruins, he said, 'This I recall to my mind; therefore have I hope.' What did he recall? The mercies of the Lord. He understood that the ruins around him were not bigger than the God above him. He refused to define his future by what his eyes could see and chose to define it by what he knew about the character of God.
Notice that Jeremiah did not say God's mercies are old, recycled, or running low. He said they are new every morning. Think of the children of Israel in the wilderness. The manna that fell from heaven could not be stored up for the next day; they had to gather it fresh each morning. God was teaching them that His supply is daily. They could not live on yesterday's bread, and they could not afford to worry about tomorrow's. Yesterday's grace cannot carry you through today's challenges, but you do not need it to, because today has its own fresh supply. Your fresh start does not depend on how perfect last week was; it depends on the faithfulness of God. His mercy is not a reward for good performance; that is why it is called mercy. So, forgive yourself, release the disappointments of the past, and receive your new mercy for the season. You are not starting from zero; you are starting with God. And since He is faithful, make it a habit to meet Him first, before the phone, before the news, before the pressures of the day begin to speak. Begin each morning by acknowledging His faithfulness, and you will see that He has prepared everything you need for this new day. The same God who was faithful yesterday is faithful today, and He will be faithful throughout the days ahead. Great is His faithfulness! Hallelujah!!!

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

- How can I intentionally begin each morning this week by acknowledging God's mercy and faithfulness before anything else?

Thank you for your mercies Lord. I will not dwell on the things of the past this week
