STRENGTH FOR THE WEARY

"Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." Isaiah 40:30-31

Glory to God! Everybody gets tired. There is the tiredness of the body after a long day, but there is also the tiredness of the soul that comes from carrying responsibilities, disappointments, and expectations for too long. You are still going, but you are running on empty, TIRED. Our opening scripture was written for such people. It says, 'Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall.' The youths are the strongest group of people, but if the young and strong can faint, then nobody is above weariness. Strength alone is not enough. No matter how gifted, young, educated, or energetic you are, there is a limit to what natural strength can do. And this is good news to us because it means that being tired does not mean we are weak in faith; it only shows that we are human. Yesterday, we discussed the renewal of the mind; today, we are discussing the renewal of the strength. The next verse says, 'But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength.' The secret to renewed strength is waiting upon the Lord. The world teaches us to go harder and prove ourselves, but God's Word teaches us to depend and receive. When you try to do God's work in your own strength, you burn out; when you do it in His strength, you are renewed.

To wait upon the Lord does not mean to sit idle. It's like a waiter in a restaurant who waits for the customer to receive orders. The strength of the waiter is dependent on the order of the customer. To wait on the Lord means to look to Him, depend on Him, and spend time in His presence. It is like plugging in a phone that is almost out of battery; you are not producing the power, you are connecting to the source. When you wait upon the Lord, He renews your strength. 'To renew' means 'to exchange': He takes your weakness and gives you His strength. Look at the eagle, which the prophet uses as a picture. An eagle does not flap hard to stay in the air; it spreads its wings and rides the current of the wind. In the same way, the one who waits on God learns to ride on His strength rather than struggling with his own strength. Think of Elijah, who ran from Jezebel and sat under a juniper tree asking to die. God did not rebuke him; He let him sleep, sent an angel to feed him, and strengthened him for the journey ahead. Sometimes what a weary soul needs is not a lecture but rest, food, and the assurance that God is still with him. The same God knows when you are weary. Take time to rest in Him today. Bring your tiredness to Him in prayer, and receive fresh strength through His Word. You shall mount up with wings as eagles; you shall run and not be weary; you shall walk and not faint. Hallelujah!!!

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

  1. Where am I trying to carry on in my own strength, and what would it look like to wait upon the Lord there?
  2. What can I do today to rest in God's presence and receive fresh strength from Him?

PRAYERS

Father, thank You for Your word. I come to You weary, and I receive fresh strength. Let me mount up with wings as eagles in Jesus's name. Amen.
