DAILY ENCOUNTER
LAY ASIDE
"Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us." Hebrews 12:1
Glory to God! The Christian journey is a race, and God has a purpose for every one of us. However, to run effectively and finish well, there are certain things we must deliberately lay aside. Our opening scripture clearly states what is required in our race: “Let us lay aside every weight.” Notice that it does not say only sin. There are weights that may not necessarily be sinful, but they can hinder our progress spiritually. Some relationships, habits, distractions, attitudes, ambitions, or unnecessary pursuits can become weights when they begin to compete with our devotion to God and His purpose for our lives. A runner does not enter a race carrying unnecessary baggage. The focus is on reaching the finish line. In the same way, we must examine our lives and ask ourselves, 'What am I carrying that God has not asked me to carry?' What is slowing me down? What is consuming my attention but adding nothing to my spiritual progress? We must also lay aside sin. Sin weakens spiritual sensitivity and interferes with our fellowship with God. We cannot deliberately hold on to what God has instructed us to release and expect to run effectively. There are things we must surrender, and there are attitudes and habits we must abandon.
Sometimes, laying aside requires making difficult decisions. It may mean forgiving someone, ending an unhealthy relationship, letting go of bitterness, consciously dealing with procrastination, controlling our appetite for worldly distractions, or refusing to return to an old lifestyle. Whatever stands between us and God's purpose must be removed. The goal is not just to lay aside the weights and sins which easily distract us but to run the race set before us by God. God has a race for us to run, and our race is not meant to be compared with someone else's. There might be challenges and moments when we may feel tired, but we must keep moving with patience and perseverance. You cannot run forward effectively while constantly holding on to what God has told you to release. Lay aside the weight. Lay aside the sin. Lay aside the distractions. Lay aside the bitterness. Lay aside the fear. Lay aside whatever is slowing you down. Sometimes, what affects our health is the unhealthy things we hold on to. There is a race before you, and there is a finish line. Release what must be released and run with endurance toward God's purpose for your life. Hallelujah!!!

ReplyDeleteThere is a race set before me and to run this race I must avoid any form of distraction, let go of any form of weight and run light. I receive grace to let go of every weight in Jesus name 🙏
