DAILY ENCOUNTER
A MERRY HEART
"A merry heart doeth good like a medicine, but a broken spirit drieth the bones."
Proverbs 17:22
Glory to God! God wants you rejoicing, while the enemy wants you in the place of despair, sadness and sickness in your bones. Beyond physical health, there is emotional health. There is a powerful connection between our emotional wellbeing and our physical health. The Bible says that a merry heart does good like medicine. This means that joy in our heart can become health in our bones. It reminds us that having a positive outlook in life is a valuable gift from God that can strengthen us in times of despair to look forward and upward, rather than downward. Life will sometimes bring disappointments and situations that can weigh heavily on the heart. However, God does not want us to remain prisoners of sadness or discouragement. The joy of the Lord is our strength (Nehemiah 8:10). When we choose to rejoice in the Lord, even in difficult seasons, we position our hearts to receive strength from Him.
A broken spirit, on the other hand, can drain a person emotionally and spiritually. Constant worry, bitterness, unforgiveness, and discouragement can rob us of the strength to enjoy life and pursue God's purposes. That is why we must learn to guard our hearts and continually fill our minds with God's Word, God's atmosphere of worship and praise. Your joy does not have to depend on everything around you being perfect. You can rejoice because God is with you, God loves you, and God is working for your good. Philippians 4:4 says, “Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say, Rejoice.” Today, choose joy. Laugh again. Give thanks. Spend time with people who strengthen your faith. Sing, praise God, and meditate on His Word. Refuse to allow yesterday's pain to steal today's joy. A merry heart is not a heart without problems; it is a heart that has learned to trust God in the midst of problems. Let your heart rejoice in the Lord always. There is no place for despair. Hallelujah!!!
