DO YOU WANT TO BE HEALED?
"When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been there a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to be healed?”" John 5:6
Glory to God! Healing is having the ability to let go of a familiar, long-held struggle or identity. It is not mostly the spectacular act of seeing blind eyes open or a fever leaving someone; it can be having the ability to walk out of limiting beliefs and structures that have brought stagnation to your soul. When you hear healing, the first thing that comes to the religious mind is wheelchairs and the restoration of broken bones. But very few people see or desire the restoration of broken hearts. Healing is more internal than it is external. You can have someone get healed physically and suffer from low self-esteem all their lives. The reason why a lot of people have been stagnated in life most of the time is not because of a physical wound but an internal wound. From our opening scripture, there was this man at the pool of Bethesda for 38 years; he saw everything. He saw miracles happen but never experienced them. He saw angelic supernatural stirring and spectacular manifestations of healing but never got healed. The question was, why was he there that long? It was definitely not because he couldn't walk; it was something that was happening internally that kept him at one spot for many years. He was suffering from an abandonment mentality. He was crippled by the thought that even if he got healed, no one cares about him. Life is not worth living because he doesn't have anyone.
When Jesus showed up, He asked him one question: Do you want to be healed? The response of the man tells you what has kept him in that spot for 38 years. The man responded to Jesus, "Sir, I don't have anyone to help me..." (John 5:7). Jesus didn't ask, 'Why are you here?' Jesus asked, Do you want to be healed? Simply means, aren't you tired of excusing yourself from leaving this place? You know there are some people who have become so comfortable in being helped in life that they don't desire to be free from other people helping them. It is not that being helped is wrong, but being entitled to it is wrong. These are people who don't want to take responsibility for their life. They don't want to help other people get up. And they get defensive when you address the situation; they become emotional in order to excuse themselves away from the truth. For example, if you are always seeking an apology and never seeing the reason to be the first to give an apology, you need healing. You can be in the environment where other people are learning new skills, getting healing, and experiencing God and never get in on it because you don't want to be free from always needing sympathy. Do you want to be healed? It begins with no more excuses. Take up your bed and walk. Hallelujah!!!
