DAILY ENCOUNTER
A PEACEFUL HEART
"A peaceful heart leads to a healthy body; jealousy is like cancer in the bones." Proverbs 14:30 (NLT)
Glory to God! The heart of a man is the control unit of his entire being, including the healthy state of his body. When the heart is healthy and joyful, the body glows in reflection of what is happening inside. Most of the times, the things we see in our body as disease can be a reflection of what is happening inside our heart. There is a connection between our hearts and our bodies, and God desires that we live with a heart that is free from bitterness, jealousy, anger, hatred, and unnecessary anxiety. From our opening scripture, a peaceful heart is a healthy heart. When our hearts are settled in God and His timing for our lives, we are able to find rest for our souls and not allow the actions of others to steal our joy. Peace does not mean that everything around us is perfect; it means that we have learned to trust the One who is greater than every circumstance. On the other hand, jealousy is destructive. When we constantly compare ourselves with others, envy what they have, or become troubled by their progress, we create an unhealthy state in our heart towards others and, most importantly, towards ourselves. Jealousy does not change another person's life; it only robs us of our own life.
The Scripture describes jealousy as being “a cancer to the bones". Just as disease can gradually destroy the body, negative emotions that are continually entertained can weaken and destroy our inner well-being. This is why we must learn to guard our hearts against jealousy and deliberately choose peace. Perhaps someone you know achieved what you have been praying for, or received an opportunity you desired. Instead of becoming jealous, celebrate them, pray for them and trust God for your own portion. Their testimony is not evidence that God has forgotten you. It is evidence that God is working around you and it will soon be your turn. When Jesus fed the five thousand, everyone received bread but not everyone received theirs at the same time. A peaceful heart also comes a function of a forgiving heart. Choose love, choose to forgive, and choose to trust God. Cultivate a peaceful heart, and you will enjoy the wholeness that God desires for you. Your peace is precious; guard it! Hallelujah!!!

REFLECTION QUESTIONS
- What person, situation, or comparison has been stealing my peace, and what do I need to surrender to God concerning it?
- Am I genuinely celebrating the progress of others while trusting God for His own timing and portion for my life?

The fruit of righteousness is sown in peace for them that makes peace. I will make peace with everyone and I will prioritise my own peace.
