ENTANGLEMENTS
"Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness?" 2 Corinthians 6:14 (NLT)
Glory to God! One of the reasons many Christians loose their faith life and backslide into ungodliness is the entanglements we permit. A believer’s spiritual growth is greatly influenced by the relationships they keep. An entanglement occurs when we become so closely connected to people, habits, or pursuits that they begin to compromise our devotion to God. Not every relationship is meant to be a partnership. You can love everyone, but not everyone can be your friend. Friendship is permission to influence. Jesus loved sinners and reached out to them for the purpose of saving their soul, not to be their friends. He was never controlled by their values. As believers, we are called to be light in the darkness, not to allow the darkness to overcome our light. Our opening scripture is a warning against entering relationships and partnerships that can pull us away from God's purpose and standards for our lives. When your closest associations continually encourage compromise and ungodliness, you need to examine those connections and cut them off immediately.
Entanglement can happen gradually. A person may begin by compromising “just a little", but repeated compromise can eventually weaken our conviction. What once troubled your conscience may become normal. What you once rejected may become acceptable. This is why the Bible warns us, 'Do not be deceived: evil company corrupts good habits.’ (1 Corinthians 15:33). Your relationships matter because the people you consistently listen to and partner with can shape your thinking, your values, your decisions, and ultimately your destiny. You must therefore learn to distinguish between loving people and being entangled with people. Love reaches out, but wisdom establishes boundaries. Love does not require you to participate in everything others do. Two mindsets that should help you against entanglements: First, I am a child of God. A child of God has the standards of God to live by, so anything and anyone who comes contrary to the standards of God for my life shouldn't be my partner. Secondly, I am light to my world. Light and darkness have no relationship, so anyone who represents darkness through their way of life cannot be my friend. When these consciousnesses are solid values in our lives, we cannot be easily swayed by ungodliness. God has called you to run your race with focus. You cannot move freely when you are constantly tied to things God is asking you to release. Some doors must close. Some relationships must change. Some habits must end. Some environments must be left behind. Your destiny is too important to be tied to what God has called you to leave behind. Hallelujah!!!
